Mad March

The weather last week was crazy. As forecast (see the Saturday post) it snowed. Not a lot here, but in areas not far from Milan, people were snowed in, and in the mountains they had record low temperatures for March : around -20°C (-4°F) if I remember correctly.

It didn't last long. A couple of days and we were back to bright blue skies and sunshine. But the temperatures have remained very, very strange. Yesterday it was 14°C (57°F) on the balcony at lunchtime. With -2°C (28°F) forecast for the night. Today it's been 16°C (61°F) but will drop to 1°C (33°F) tonight. That's a huge difference andI think I'm going to have some very confused plants
.

It's also meant that I've been holding back on sowing. Though one set of seedlings doesn't seem to have been at all phased by the cold weather. This winter, I made the mistake of leaving my chrysanthemum container underneath the bird feeder. It seems that this year I'm going to be harvesting a great crop of millet ...

We have had nice and constant weather, good working conditions for outdoors. Hopefully we can hurry some more moderate temperatures your way. Have a wonderful week. Diana

well at least the crazy weather gave yo a gorgeos first photo! We're the same here, sort of, never as high but around 11 degrees then down to minus 5.

The weather's been peculiar here too, although that's not unusual! Re the bird seed, I can remember having a great variety of seedlings appearing under my birdtable in the UK!

If it were on my balcony or deck, the squirrels would make quick work of the millet seedlings. I do like your primroses.

This winters weather is crazy! I sent my youngest doughter to Mallorca and they have also had snow, something that haven't happened for at least thirty years!

Our evenings here are still a bit too cool although I keep reminding myself it's still only March. But it's looking very spring like for sure.

I just said to heck with the weather and started putting 3 to 4-inch pea and bean seedlings (sown in late February) into large containers outside. I simply won't wait another moment for mother nature to decide in which range she'd like to set the numbers. If it looks like it'll drop that's okay, because the pots get covered with plastic sheeting every evening. Basta inverno!!!
