Cyclamen - Who Me?

I decided not to buy any cyclamen this year. I lost all the ones I had in last year's hard winter, and decided I couldn't be bothered fussing with them again. It tends to be too hot in the house to keep them in flower, and there's not enough light, whereas outside I risk losing them as soon as temperatures drop. They also prefer slightly acidic conditions - a bother to maintain with the hard water we have here.
So I thought I'd give them a miss this winter. But then I saw these - and they were sooo pretty, I just had to bring them home.

A week later, I saw these...

At which point I thought I might as well get some red ones too...

Oh well, here's hoping for a warm winter.

My Mum's a great cyclamen fan, and they are very pretty. I hope they survive for you.

I love cyklamen too. And now you got me all inspired once again, but it´s just too late to get it in balcony here in Finland, it´s just too cold, they would freese too fast, because temperature can drop now (even in balcony with glasses on) to several minus degrees at nights.:/

Cyclamen are irrisistable in all their forms. They are still sold over here for winter planting in hanging baskets and pots but a hard or wet winter can be a killer. I'm sure people buy them thinking they are completely hardy. At least yours will get some shelter on your balcony!

Hello Sue,
Do you preserve your plants from one season to the next or do you replace them according to their blooming cycles. BTW the cyclamen look amazing.

It's hard to resist them =) I've only got one this winter and I keep it in the window in the store where the temperature is so much better for them / gittan

Hi Sue,
I know how you feel. I think that I would have been seduced by them too!

Those are really beautiful, especially the ones with the frilly edges. I would have been very tempted, too.

They are lovely. I'm thrilled to have found a couple which survived last winter as I cleared my front garden yesterday. They were hiding under an overgrown clematis montana!
